Volunteer Program + Commitment

As we prepare for an exciting 2026 lacrosse season, we want to share an important update regarding how we continue to support and grow our club.

This year, we are re-introducing our volunteer commitment as part of the registration process. The Wizards Lacrosse Club is a non-profit organization and proudly run by volunteers. The time and effort contributed by families plays a huge role in creating a positive, affordable, and well-organized season for our players.

What This Means for Families

To keep things simple and flexible, families will have two options at registration:

  • Volunteer
Families select a volunteer position directly during Player Registration. Roles vary in time commitment and can often be completed during the season or at a single event.

  • Opt-Out Option
For families who are unable to volunteer this season, an opt-out fee will be available at Player Registration only. This helps offset the cost of hiring support when volunteer roles are unfilled.

Why We’re Doing This

Reintroducing the volunteer commitment allows us to:

  • Keep registration fees more affordable
  • Ensure games and events run smoothly
  • Support coaches, officials, and players
  • Continue growing lacrosse in our community

We truly appreciate every family who contributes their time and energy. Volunteering helps keep our club strong, affordable, and welcoming for all players.

If you have questions or need help selecting a role that fits your schedule, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Club President. We are happy to help!

Volunteer Program Details

1 VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT PER PLAYER

  • You are required to complete 1.0 volunteer points per player, up to a maximum of 2.0 points per family (when registering multiple players).
  • If you choose not to volunteer, $200.00 will be added to your registration fee up to a total of $400.00 per family.

Volunteer commitments should be signed up for during Player Registration or within the first weeks of regular season. A $200 post-dated cheque is required with Player Registration.

Once the volunteer commitments have been fulfilled, the post-dated cheque will be shredded. If the commitments have not been fulfilled, we will process the cheque.

If a cheque is returned unpaid (bounces), the player’s participation in practices or games will be paused until the outstanding balance is resolved.

Volunteer Roles + Descriptions

Families can earn volunteer credits in many different roles to fulfill their Volunteer Commitment. Most tasks require little time, and when done by parents, this helps the Club operate smoothly and benefits all members.

  • Club Board Member
Board Members help guide the overall direction of the club and support its long-term success. Responsibilities include: attending monthly board meetings; supporting club operations, planning, and decision-making; assisting with initiatives related to their board portfolio; being available to support the club throughout the season. This role is ideal for individuals looking to contribute at a leadership level and help shape the future of the club.

  • Head Coach
Head Coaches lead the team both on and off the floor, creating a positive and development-focused environment. Responsibilities include: planning and running practices; leading games and team activities; supporting player development, teamwork, and sportsmanship; communicating with players, parents, and team staff. Coaches are expected to attend practices, games, and team events.

  • Assistant Coach
Assistant Coaches support the Head Coach and help deliver quality instruction and support to players. Responsibilities include: assisting with practices and drills; supporting players during games; helping maintain a safe and encouraging team environment. Assistant Coaches are expected to attend practices, games, and team events.

  • Team Manager
Team Managers provide essential administrative and organizational support to ensure a smooth season. Responsibilities include: coordinating schedules and team communications; assisting team and coaches with paperwork and logistics; supporting game-day and event organization; acting as a liaison between families, coaches, and the club. Managers are expected to be present at practices, games, and team events.

  • Team Treasurer
Team Treasurers help manage team finances responsibly and transparently. Responsibilities include: maintaining a team budget, tracking expenses and payments; ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date; communicating with the team regarding approved expenses. This role is well-suited for individuals comfortable with basic budgeting and organization.

  • Bingo Volunteer
Bingo fundraising is a key source of support for our club. Responsibilities include: working a scheduled bingo shift; assisting with tasks assigned by the bingo hall; representing the club in a professional manner. Bingo dates and times vary. Locations are in the Edmonton area.

  • Casino Volunteer
Casino fundraising provides critical financial support for club operations. Responsibilities include: completing one 8-hour shift or two 4-hour shifts; performing assigned duties during the casino event; representing the club responsibly and professionally. Casino dates and times vary. Locations are in the Edmonton area.

  • Club Event Volunteer
Club events help support our members, build the Club and promote lacrosse. Responsibilities include: assisting with club-hosted events (setup, teardown, registration, or supervision).
